Leave it plugged into the outlet and there is always a light available. Not sure that I would ever use the compass, but there is no harm in it being there. I have used this little flashlight countless times. My wife uses it to look in her purse when we are driving at night - much less intrusive than turning on overhead lights. Not bright enough for real outdoor use - but in an emergency it would certainly be better than not having one, and by leaving it in the outlet you always have a fully charged light when you need one. He even put his into a clamp & tried pulling apart with a pair of pliers.
